FINISHING FOAM CREATIONS

You have made your own foam creation, but you are not 100% satisfied? The finishing touch is missing, but you don’t know exactly what?

How do you finish your foam hat or foam wig? How do you enhance the level of your creation from  ‘satisfied’ to ‘Yeaaah! That’s it!’? In summary, how do you make it work?

Below you’ll find a number of tips to get your creation to the next level.

Glitter foam

Glitter foam is the ultimate way to give your foam creation an extra dimension. It is easy to cut. Moreover, you can attach it to the regular foam by means of hot air. This will make your creation stand out, even from a distance.

EVA foam

This  thin 2mm foam has some extra colour shades to finish your creations. Just like the glitter foam it can be easily  cut with a knife or scissors and it can be adhered to the regular foam by means of hot air. Because this foam is thin, you can apply many colour shades without it looking clunky.

Boas

Perfect for giving your foam hat some extra volume. Boas can easily be adhered to foam by means of a glue gun. Perfect for concealing seams.

Marabous

Marabou is the little brother of the boa. These feathers are much finer, which makes the marabou thinner, lighter and more elegant than the boa. Marabous can easily be adhered to foam by means of a glue gun. Perfect for concealing seams.

Feathers

Ostrich feathers, but also other types of feathers are often used as finishing for foam hats. Creafoam offers selected drabs that can give your creation a fantastic look. Feathers can easily be adhered to foam by means of a glue gun.

Tubes

Decorative hoses or decorative tubes are great for finishing your creation. Available in various colours, they are perfect to conceal borders and seams or simply to give your creation a fun touch. Moreover, they are great for holding LED lights. Simply slide in the lights and stick the tube to your creation. Two birds with one stone!

Led lights

Led lights are perfect to make your creation stand out at night as well. These lights are usually attached to a fine string and are battery-powered. Creafoam offers these of 2 meters with 2 small batteries that are already included. Because of the fine wire, it won’t be disruptive during the day. The lights are bright enough to be visible during the day, although the effect at night is all that more impressive. Leds can easily be adhered to foam by means of a glue gun.

Rhinestones

Everything that shines is fun implement on a hat or wig. Rhinestones are available in all colours shapes and sizes. Creafoam made a selection of high quality rhinestones that can easily be adhered to your foam creation. Moreover, these rhinestones can also be sewn onto the clothing due to two holes. Rhinestones can easily be adhered to foam by means of a glue gun.

Fabric

A lot of foam hats are decorated with fabric to better match the costume.. The way fabric is applied greatly depends on the type of fabric. Heavy and thick fabrics, such as plush can easily be adhered using the glue gun. In case of finer fabrics, such as satin, you won’t be able to use the glue gun, because the glue will be visible through the fabric. In this case, double sided tape or glue spray is a better solution. Our advice is to first test it on a small piece of fabric.

However, sometimes you don’t need additional products to improve the level of finishing. With the following 2 golden tips, you will easily and drastically improve the look of your creation.

Fingerprints

When working with foam, you risk leaving fingerprints on your creation. This doesn’t look good and makes your creation look sloppy. However, this is an easily fixed inconvenience. Our tip: when you are done sticking the foam together, use the heat gun to cover the entire hat or wig. The fingerprints will disappear instantly.

Shiny foam

The heat gun will cause the foam to stick together, but the downside is that it will make the foam somewhat shiny in the places where it was heated. This way, you’ll end up with parts that are and are not shiny. This doesn’t look good. Our tip: when you are done sticking the foam together, use the heat gun to cover the entire hat or wig. Your creation will now shine much more evenly.
